American Sign Language Flashcards

Once learned, finger spelling in sign language is a useful
skill for all children to have. It also allows children to appreciate how
difficult it is for young deaf children to communicate when they can't do so
verbally.
And learning finger spelling can be fun, too. You can make up
all sorts of games which will not only reinforce your child's knowledge of sign
language, but of real spelling too!
These flashcards can be printed onto cardstock or colored
card, cut out and laminated if required. You could also use them to create
a border or ASL alphabet chart for the classroom board or wall. We have included
numbers from 0 to 10 too.

A note about American Sign Language (ASL), British Sign
Language (BSL) and finger spelling:
American Sign Language is done with one hand; British Sign
Language with two. (We are looking for British Sign Language graphics to use for
a set of BSL flashcards too).
Not all sign language is done with finger spelling - it would
be too time-consuming! Finger spelling is used to spell out names, places or
difficult words, and sometimes words which the person signing doesn't know the
sign language for.
