Chinese New Year
is a good excuse to try out some Chinese recipes with your
family, and we have a selection of easy family favourites below.
Chow Fan (Chinese Fried Rice)
I was brought up in Hong Kong and "Chow Fan" was one of our
favourite family meals. The recipe I have given here is a very "anglicized"
version, and of course you can adapt it endlessly by adding your own family's
favourite vegetables and meats - or using up any leftovers. Most children love
it, so make it in large quantities!
Sweet and Sour Chicken
"Sweet and sour" was a classic Chinese dish in the 1980s, but that was because
it has always been so popular with the family market! Kids love the sweet taste
(from the pineapple chunks) and it is sure to become a family favourite.
Home-made fortune cookies
Fortune cookies are a fun way to end a family meal, and easily
bought in most Chinese supermarkets. But they are also fun to make - and if you
make them yourself you will be able to add your own "fortunes" (or get the kids
to write some out to include, which is sure to get them giggling).

Cheer up the table with these gorgeous sweet treats! Fondant flowers
NEW!
These little fondant penguins are fun to make and a delicious treat to
eat! The fondant needs an overnight stay in the fridge, so if you have
all the ingredients you could mix some up today and make the penguins
tomorrow... Fondant penguins
Jumbles - a delicious, gingery biscuit which
kids will enjoy cooking (and eating!)
