Christmas Net Bags

These
little bags can be co-ordinated to suit almost any Christmas colour scheme
and dressed up or down depending on how you and the children are feeling!
Use them to hang little presents on the Christmas tree, as a little gift
at everyone's place on the Christmas table, or to enclose tiny presents
for favourite little friends.
You will need
- A small amount of petticoat netting in Christmas
colours - red, green, white - which you can find at your local fabric
shop. You may also be able to find similar fabric in gold and silver.
- Elastic bands
- Ribbon
- Fillings - we suggest gold coins, favourite
sweets, small children's Christmas tree ornament etc
- Coloured tissue paper or crepe paper if you want
the contents to be hidden
- Decorative extras such as holly sprigs, berries,
small ornaments
- Scissors or pinking shears
- Paper and pencil for template
Instructions
Draw around a side plate or similar to make a circle template of a
minimum of about 9 inches diameter.
Use this template to cut out the required number of net circles, using
pinking shears for a decorative finish if you like.
Cut out a slightly smaller circle of tissue paper or crepe paper and
place this on top of the net circle - this will disguise the contents of
your package.
Put a small treat or handful of coins or sweets in the middle of the
circle, then carefully gather up the edges of the circle and fix with a
small elastic band. Younger children may need a little help with this.
Fluff out the edges of the fabric and paper to make the bag look pretty.
Tie a ribbon around the elastic band to disguise it and provide a loop
for hanging if desired.
Attach any decorative extras. A small sprig of holly and red berries
looks gorgeous pushed though a red gingham ribbon tied around red net.
There are endless possibilities! If the children are involved a tiny teddy
or snowman decoration could be tied on, or a candy cane pushed through.
