Felt and Ribbon Bookmarks

The bookmarks in the photo have been created for Valentine's
Day, but you could obviously adapt this craft for other times of the year.
This is a quick and simple craft idea suitable for all ages of children. The
bookmarks are perfect for a special present for a teacher, mummy or granny - and
also lend themselves to a production line if lots are required for a class or
party bags!
You will need:
Scraps of felt and ribbons
PVA (white) glue
Sharp scissors
Optional: sequins, buttons or other adornments Instructions:
Mark and
cut the felt into bookmark-sized pieces. Older children can do this themselves
with supervision. Our smallest bookmark measures 4.5cm x 15cm and our largest
5.5cm x 21cm. Cut a length of ribbon for each bookmark so that it extends 5cm
beyond the end of the felt, and carefully stick it down with white glue.
Cut a
heart shape out of matching or contrasting felt to cover the top of the ribbon.
We did this freehand, by folding a rectangle of felt in half and snipping. A few
mistakes were made but it was good practise! If you prefer you can use our
templates. Stick the heart to the
bookmark and embellish further as you like. Remember that you want the main part
of the bookmark to be flat so keep decorations to the top portion!
Allow to
dry thoroughly. Back to Kids Crafts
