Handwriting Readiness

Before children attempt to learn numbers and letters they need to
develop their fine motor skills
to the extent that they can hold a pencil properly and control its pressure and
movement on the paper. The next stage is to start with some handwriting
readiness worksheets - very easy lines and shapes - and work gradually up to
more complicated patterns and formations.
The handwriting readiness worksheets below have been provided in grey-line,
dotted and colour versions so that you can vary what you provide to keep your
child interested and enjoying the challenge! We suggest you laminate some of
them to use with dry-wipe or wet chalk pens - keep a stack ready for odd moments
and car journeys!
