Make a Harry Potter wand: NEW!
Find a chopstick or wooden dowel and some string. Wind the string in a loose spiral around the wand, sticking as you go with white glue or a glue gun (with adult supervision). When dry, paint the wand black and brown with acrylic paint or spray paint. You could rub a little gold paint over the rough edges of the string when it is dry if you want the wand to look even more special. See if you can find a box just the right size to keep your wand in, and line it with cotton wool or soft fabric. We've also some got some really quick Harry Potter wands for when you need some magic done fast!
Make a sorting hat: NEW!
You can make a simple sorting hat out of a semi-circle of brown construction paper or brown felt, twisted into a conical shape and stapled or glued together. Add some character by bending it a little here and there, kinking the very top over to one side, and perhaps hanging some extra strands or fringes of paper or felt down from inside the hat.
House badges: NEW!
Design badges for each of the houses (look online to find the crests) on circles of card, using the house colours if you like. Colour and cut out. Use sticky tape to attach a safety pin to the back.
Jack made this great book of spells! NEW!
Make a folder:
We found lots of great printable activities on our travels and decided to put them all together into a folder for rainy days and holidays. If you
like that idea too, you can make your folder extra-special by doing a Google image search for Harry Potter images and printing out a selection to stick on
your folder.
Make a Hogwarts journal decorated with a house crest:
Buy a plain, lined notebook. The kind with cardboard covers is ideal, especially if you can find one in an appropriate house colour, or black
or brown. Do a Google image search for your favorite house crest, then use the image to draw your own version, either directly on the cover or
onto paper to be cut out and stuck on when finished. We copied a Gryffindor crest onto white paper, cut it out and pasted it onto a red
notebook, and then outlined the edges in gold highlighting pen.
