I Went On Holiday is a popular memory game which is perfect for
keeping kids amused when they are confined to a table, car or waiting room! You
need at least some geographical knowledge so it is best played with older kids.
Age: 7+
The first player thinks of a city, country or continent
beginning with the letter “a” and then says, for example:
“I went on holiday in Albania”
The next player repeats the sentence and adds somewhere beginning with “b”, for
example:
“I went on holiday in Albania and Bolivia”.
The next player adds somewhere beginning with “c”:
“I went on holiday in Albania, Bolivia and Church Crookham”
Play continues until someone can’t remember the list or makes a mistake.
Depending on their age, you can either prompt them or disqualify them! Keep
going until all players but one are disqualified, or until you reach the end of
the alphabet.
Variations
If playing with older children, you can make the game even more difficult by
adding a travelling companion. For example,
“I went on holiday in Albania with Auntie Annie, Bolivia with Batty Bertie, and
Church Crookham with Charlie Crackpot"
Call My Bluff
This is a fun word game (made famous by the TV show) which can
help children to learn new words, practise dictionary work and presentation
skills! It works best in a classroom or large group setting, and you will need
