James I Printables
King James I, also King James VI of Scotland, ruled England from 1603 to 1625
and was the first of the Stuart line. He had become King of Scotland at the
tender age of 13 months old, succeeding his mother,
Mary Queen of Scots.
When the last of the Tudor monarchs, Elizabeth I, died, James I travelled to
England to be crowned King. He is best-known for The Gunpowder Plot, a Catholic
plot to blow up Parliament and the King in 1605. A solider, Guy Fawkes, was
discovered with the gunpowder and the King was saved. The whole event has been
commemorated with Bonfire Night ever since.
