King John Printables
King John was the youngest of
Henry II's sons, and he ruled England from
1199 to 1216. He became king when his older brother,
King Richard I, died. He had two
nicknames: John Lackland (because he didn't inherit any lands and was therefore
at a disadvantage as king) and John Soft-sword, because he was supposedly a poor
soldier! He is well-known as the enemy in the legends of Robin Hood. When he
died, his son Henry succeeded him to become
Henry III.
