Native American Talking Stick

Make your own talking stick at Thanksgiving or when you are studying Native
Americans - or when you need to restore some order to a family or classroom
council! You can learn about the uses and traditions of the
Native American Talking Stick here.
You will need:
A length of dowel about 6 inches long
Ribbon
Leather thong or cord (or use thick wood/yarn)
Beads
Feathers
Sticky tape
Instructions:
Wrap the ribbon around your stick, taping at either end to secure in place.
Cut a length of leather thong and tie it around one end of the stick (taping
if needed). The hanging ends should be about the same length. On to these ends
thread beads, knotting the ends when finished. Tie some feathers onto the thong
by wrapping thread or sticky tape around the point.
Finally tape some feathers to each end of the stick.
