I love finding ways to keep the kids busy and use up
bits and pieces I have lying around the house at the same time - and I
came across a super video of a mother and daughter making hand-made
recycled paper. Despite some rather irritating background music it shows
very clearly the process from start to finish and I liked the idea so
much that we are going to try it at home as soon as I can lay my hand on
a mould and deckle!
NB: Please do not let children watch videos or
browse video hosting sites online unsupervised.
Also on my travels this week I came across this idea
for a growing
willow wigwam, which will grow with your child! How I wish I had made
one of these a few years ago!

If you have any behavioral issues with your kids, you might want
to check out the
Better Behavior Wheel,
from Robert and Julie Butler. We've been recommending it at Activity
Village for nearly two years now and have had great feedback from
purchasers (as well as resorting to it ourselves on occasion!)
Available as a real product (sent internationally) or as a digital
download, the Better Behavior Wheel allows you to set consequences for
undesirable behavior that fit your family - and the unusual and very
clever twist of having to spin the wheel to discover your punishment
works wonders to take the stress out of the situation for the parent and
reinforce the message for the child. This is an excellent product and we
recommend it highly. Product review here Get the

POLL
Here are the results of last week's poll, which asked
"How much would you normally spend on your child's birthday gifts?":
This week's poll asks "Should
Mother's Day be banned in schools?". One
of our readers suggested we put the question to the vote when she read
this article in the Daily Mail. Activity Village Poll
THIS WEEK'S
POEM
Each day I learn more
Than I teach;
I learn that half knowledge of
Another's life
Leads to false judgement;
I learn that there is surprising kinship
In human nature;
I learn that it's a wise father who
Knows his own son;
I learn that what we expect we get;
I learn there's more good than evil in
This world;
That age is a question of spirit;
That youth is the best of life
No matter how numerous the years;
I learn how much there is to learn. Virginia Church
THIS WEEK'S
QUOTE
“To laugh often and much; to win
the respect of intelligent
people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation
of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to
appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world
a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a
redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success." Ralph Waldo Emerson
Tracy lives in Portsmouth, UK, and is a home-schooling mother to 4
girls.
Each week she will be
suggesting websites or individual web pages for us to visit. And
remember, if you come across anything outstanding or particularly useful
that you think others would enjoy, we would like to hear about it. (editor@activityvillage.co.uk)
