Activity Village News
9th March 2007

Do you have one of your child's favourite, out-grown
T-shirts lying around? Here is a clever way to keep them and continue to
enjoy
them - and you can enlist the help of your children with this project,
too. First, lay the T-shirt flat and stitch the front to the back across
the bottom edge. Then stitch across the sleeves. Now use the opening at
the neck to stuff the T-shirt with polyester stuffing material, bean bag
filling, or even old stockings (pantyhose) cut into shreds. When nice
and fluffy, sew the neck up too. Now you have a fun pillow and a memory
all in one! This is a lovely idea for those special baby tops that you
can't bear to part with.

March 16th is Red Nose Day in the UK. If you haven't
bought your red noses yet, you can find them at Sainsbury's or Oxfam, or
from the Red Nose
Day website. You will find lots of ideas for getting involved and
raising some money, and the website also has a fun section for kids,
http://www.rednoseday.com/for-kids/ with much to explore.
One of our newsletter subscribers, Janie, has written to
tell me that, as her eldest son is autistic, she is doing a parachute
jump on 6th April to raise money for the National Autistic Society.
Please consider sponsoring this brave mother! You can do so through the
JustGiving website at her dedicated page
My
Jump For Autism.

Activity Village Poll
Here are the results of last week's poll, which asked
"Is organic food better for your family's health?"

This Week's Poem

What a Baby Costs
"How much do babies cost?" said he
The other night upon my knee;
And then I said: "They cost a lot;
A lot of watching by a cot,
A lot of sleepless hours and care,
A lot of heart-ache and despair,
A lot of fear and trying dread,
And sometimes many tears are shed
In payment for our babies small,
But every one is worth it all.
"For babies people have to pay
A heavy price from day to day -
There is no way to get one cheap.
Why, sometimes when they're fast asleep
You have to get up in the night
And go and see that they're all right.
But what they cost in constant care
And worry, does not half compare
With what they bring of joy and bliss -
You'd pay much more for just a kiss.
"Who buys a baby has to pay
A portion of the bill each day;
He has to give his time and thought
Unto the little one he's bought.
He has to stand a lot of pain
Inside his heart and not complain;
And pay with lonely days and sad
For all the happy hours he's had.
His smile is worth it all, you bet."

This Week's Humour
What can we learn from our
kids...
- It's more fun to color outside the lines.
- If you're going to draw on the wall, do it behind the couch.
- Even Popeye didn't eat his spinach until he absolutely had to.
- If your dog doesn't like someone you probably shouldn't either.
- Sometimes you have to take the test before you've finished studying.
- If you want a kitten, start out asking for a horse.
- There is no good reason why clothes have to match.
- If the horse you're drawing looks more like a dog, make it a dog.
- Save a place in lines for your friends.
- Just keep banging until someone opens the door.
- Making your bed is a waste of time.
- Make up the rules as you go along.
- It doesn't matter who started it.
- Ask for sprinkles.
- Hang on tight.
- Ask "why" until you understand.
