Activity Village News

A Message From Lindsay
We've had some wonderful feedback from readers in the last few weeks. If you are
one of the people who have written in, thank you! Those of you who have written
in confirm that worksheets, printables of all kinds, colouring pages and crafts
are your favourite activities - so we will keep them coming!
Birthdays are of course the biggest event in most children's year, and we
recently realised that our birthday pages needed a huge facelift. So this week
we have started the process with some new birthday printables (including some of
our very popular "fold-ups") and we'll be adding a lot more over the next few
months.
We are also looking ahead to Valentine's Day
and St David's Day - and please don't forget
that MLK Day, Chinese
New Year, and Groundhog Day are coming up
too!

We've also added 5 more coloring pages to our pets section:

St David's Day is coming up, so we've been looking at famous Welsh men
and women to add to our stock of writing frames / notebooking pages and
mini booklets

It's not too long until Valentine's Day, and those of you with lots
of cards to send might want to start planning now! We have a wonderful
new collection of Valentine Cards which your kids can make themselves -
what better way to celebrate Valentine's Day!

Goal Setting For Kids
Ever thought about Goal Setting for Kids? Goal setting is one of the
most important skills that a person can learn, and the earlier this
skill is learned, the more chances there are for successful outcomes in
a person’s life. Adults know that goal setting is all about planning,
making progress with that plan and reaching final goals or achievements.
Once a child learns how to do this, they can use this tool for more
success in school and at home.
Goal setting for kids will help your children to do well on their school
tests and in activities such as sports, music programs or outside
academic or arts programs - even at home, and with their personal
finances. Teaching your child how to be a goal setter will give them a
sense that they are capable of whatever they want to do. That’s
valuable!

"My childhood should have taught me lessons for my own parenthood,
but it didn't because parenting can be learned only by people who have
no children."
Bill Cosby

Reader Tip of the Week
Thank you to Hannah for this useful tip:
My two children have a “tomorrow” basket each, which live on the landing
outside their bedrooms, next to their school backpacks. If they want to
take something to school that doesn’t go into their backpacks, they put
it there. They also use it in the evening when they put tomorrow’s
outfit out all ready to go. Since we started doing this our mornings are
much more peaceful and easy, and my 7 year old has become very good at
planning. The kids recently went to stay with Nanna and Grandad for a
weekend and she packed for herself and her younger brother and didn’t
forget one thing!

Something To Think About..
"One day most of the family was together in the mailroom, busily
sorting through stacks of letters. Will was on the floor playing. He
looked up and said, "Mommy, Daddy can't move his arms anymore."
Dana said, "That's right, Daddy can't move his arms."
"And Daddy can't run around anymore."
"That's right; he can't run around anymore."
"And Daddy can't talk."
"That's right; he can't talk right now, but he will be able to."
Then Will paused, screwed up his face in concentration, and burst out
happily, "But he can still smile."
Christopher Reeve, from "Still Me ", 1952-2004
"A baby is God's opinion that the world should go on."
