Number Printables
Teaching number recognition, counting and one-to-one correspondence is easier
and more fun if you can engage children in many ways:
- Count everything! Steps are great, biscuits and sweets are popular, lego
bricks and farm animals and socks and fingers and breakfast cereal and anything else that comes to
hand are possibilities!
- Look for numbers wherever you go - on number plates, the front of buses,
telephones, the TV controller, T-shirts, posters ... see how many your child
can recognise
- Use the whole body - it helps kinaesthetic learners and keeps all
children more engaged. That's why counting stairs is so useful! Trace number
shapes (using our printables below) or construct numbers with play dough,
bricks or other bits and pieces. Make number collages. Go pretend shopping
("can I have two potatoes please") and sing number songs while doing all the
actions ("Five Little Monkeys" for example).
- Above all, have fun!

Cut out these bright, simple cars and create a number line. They are fun
sticky-tacked to a wall, or you could print onto card, cut out and laminate so
that they can be jumbled and sorted over and over again.

Printable Number Games

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear is an ideal introduction to dice games for
very young children. They can learn to count the dots on the die and begin to
recognise the patterns on the die by looking for the matching pattern on the
teddies. The game can be played as either a pencil and paper game or a board
game.

Number Chicks concentrates on number recognition (rather than
counting dots) and includes a fast and fun variation for older kids.
