If you are lucky enough to have a good outdoor space for your party, we've got some game suggestions for you below! Of course many of them will work for summer camps, large family get-togethers or celebration picnics too...
Balloon Relay
Balloon games are always fun, and this one is a classic birthday party game. Be aware that some children are scared of popping balloons, so it is a good idea to have a quiet activity that they can help you with without feeling embarrassed in front of their friends.
Blind Man's Bluff
This is a very old favourite, thought to date back to Tudor times at least! It was originally known as Blind Man's Buff. There is also a traditional Chinese version known as "Blind Man" or "Chicken".
Capture The Flag
Capture The Flag has always been a huge favourite with my kids, who learned it at a school summer camp and have played on every available occasion since. It is a great game for large, mixed age groups and long summer afternoons!
Keep Your Bottle
This game is particularly good at family parties or with mixed age groups, and is definitely a warm weather game!

The Donut Game
This is a messy way to serve the kids something to eat, but most children will enjoy it! This works quite well at a family gathering, as there will certainly be some adults who are willing to have a go!
The Flour Game
A messy game, this appeals to children more than their parents! You are better off playing this outside if possible. It has a certain similarity to Jenga!

Not for the faint-hearted, this game is best played out of doors when clothes don't really matter! It works with mixed family age-groups if everyone who takes part is a good sport, and will cause much hilarity..

This game takes a bit of preparation, but is less rowdy than some other "hunting" games and is generally enjoyed.

I've no idea why this game works, and I confess I never enjoyed it much as a child myself! But some children love it so I've included it here and you can make up your own minds! Play it indoors in a large space, or outside.
