Outdoor Games And Activities

Most children love to play outdoors, but sometimes they need a
helping hand with ideas to get them started. Enjoy our collection of tried and
tested games below.
Beanbag Cross
Challenge
This is a great game for a large gathering of children - you need at least a
team of 8, a fairly large space and a means of marking the ground. A good test
of concentration and skill!
Hold A Boat Race
NEW!
Make your own boats and sail them in the paddling pool!
Capture The Flag
You will need a large group of children and a large space, too, but if you
have both, this is a favorite game for all ages.
Catch The Dragon's
Tail
This traditional Chinese game is great fun for the playground. You will need a
large group of children - at least 10, but the more the merrier!
Chinese Ball
This traditional Chinese playground game develops children's ball skills and
their concentration - it really keeps them on their toes!
Forcing The City Gates
A traditional Chinese rough outdoor game for boys.

Freeze NEW!
A popular tag game, you will need a large (dry) space to play freeze.
French Cricket
French Cricket is a very popular game with older children and teenagers, but it
is fun in a family gathering too. You need at least 6 players for a good game,
and a fairly large space to play.
Hawk Catching
The Young Chicks
This is a traditional Chinese chase game, to be played outdoors. It is a good
game to play with a mixed age-group.
Hopping Chicken
An energetic game for two or more players. It can be played indoors or out.
Hunter And Guard
NEW!
A super game for whiling away a summer afternoon in
the park with a group of friends. Particularly useful if you have one child who
doesn't like (or can't) run around too much.
Keep Your Bottle
This game is particularly good at family parties or with mixed
age groups, and is definitely a warm weather game!
Knocking The Stick
Another outdoor Chinese game traditionally played by boys.
Moon Cake
This playground game needs chalk and at least 4 kids, but preferably more. It is
good for children learning their numbers and easy addition.
Red Light Green Light
NEW!
A game which suits kids of all ages, for which you will need a large space. You
can use it with younger children to reinforce the concept of "red is for stop"
and "green is for go".
Red Rover NEW!
A traditional playground game which needs a large number of fairly evenly
matched children to be successful. Not for the faint-hearted!
Simple Treasure Hunt
This is perfect for very young children and, although it can be played indoors,
is best in the garden (yard). It is an excellent game to play when the children
are beginning to get restless towards the end of the party, and will mean that
the children find their own presents for a party bag.
Spider and flies
A game of tag with a difference!
Striking The Stick
A complicated outdoor game requiring ingenuity and skill, traditionally played
by boys.
Tag
Everybody knows the rules of tag, so it is just here as a reminder!
The Splash Game
Not for the faint-hearted, this game is best played out of doors when clothes
don't really matter! It works with mixed family age-groups if everyone who takes
part is a good sport, and will cause much hilarity..
What's The Time Mr Wolf
Best with a group of fairly young children - say 5-8 years old -
this has been a firm favorite with children for many years.
