Ribbon Jewellery

Ribbon
jewellery is an ideal quick and easy rainy day craft. You will find most
of the things you need in your sewing box or craft cupboard! And it makes
an ideal craft for parties too: provide a selection of bits and bobs, have
the girls create their own necklaces and bracelets and let them take them
home.
You will need:
You will need a selection of ribbon and
braid, cut to fit around the child's neck of wrist with a further 2 inches
(5cm) to provide for fastening. You will also want some knick-knacks to
decorate the jewellery. We used buttons, beads, stick-on jewels, tiny
bows, and braid flowers (cut from braid ribbon). Also required are white
glue (PVA glue), small scraps of velcro, and plenty of patience and nimble
fingers! Instructions:
Once the ribbon is cut to size, turn
under a 1/2 inch section at each end and crease. Use a tiny dab of glue to
stick it down. Cut a small piece of hook velcro for one end, and a
matching loop piece for the other. Work out where they go carefully! Older
children may want to sew the velcro in place. Stick down and leave to dry.
While
the glue is drying, decide on the design of your necklace or bracelet. You
could have one large decoration in the middle of the choker, as in most of
the examples above, or a selection spaced around the necklace or bracelet.
Remember to think about whether the recipient has long hair, as it might
get in the way if there are too many decorations! Attach the decorations
with a small dab of glue and wait for them to dry.
