Tennis is a wonderful sport for kids. Quite apart from the physical benefits
(fitness, flexibility, hand-eye coordination), tennis requires a certain amount
of tactical thinking and planning, the ability to manage and cope with mistakes
and a certain amount of stress - and as their game develops children will need
to learn to make some quick decisions! The skills and mental mindset required
for singles and doubles are very different, and playing with a partner in
doubles brings many more opportunities for learning, both in terms of tennis
skills and social skills. And of course, let's not forget that tennis is fun,
and it gets the kids outdoors!
Finally, it is worth mentioning that, in a world dominated by the notorious
"celebrity" sports stars, the world of tennis offers some excellent role models
for children.
