Kids love to throw - whether it be a ball, a stick, crumpled up paper, or a
Frisbee - and throwing games are good fun, good exercise, and excellent for
developing all sorts of sporting skills. We have gathered together a collection
of throwing games to inspire you, both for indoors and outdoors.
Beanbag Games
Beanbags are excellent for developing throwing and catching skills, and can
usually be played indoors (with care)
Chinese BallNEW!
This traditional Chinese playground game develops children's ball skills and
their concentration - it really keeps them on their toes!
Christmas Card Toss
Simple - but addictive and fun! Obviously you can play this with a birthday card
or postcard collection, too.
Getting To Know You
This is an ice-breaking circle game which will help kids get to know each other
quickly.
Throw Coins
This is a traditional Chinese boy's game, similar to marbles. Children "win"
coins in this game, so you will need to decide whether to play with real coins
as the prize or to claim them back at the end!
Throwing The Square
Throwing The Square is a traditional Chinese game which can be played with two
players or teams, indoors or out.
Toss The Snowball
Toss The Snowball is an easy game to set up and can be played with all ages (as
young as 2) and numbers.
Make A Ping Pong Bat And NetNEW!
The Chinese introduced table tennis to the world and have always been extremely
good at the sport. You can make your own ping pong bats and net and have a go!
Make A Name Book
More of a craft activity than a game, this is a great way for kids to get to
know each other at the beginning of the school year.
Fishing (Tiu-u or Chinese Dominoes) This game of Chinese dominoes sounds a little complicated to
begin with but is in fact very simple to play. The name ‘fishing’ comes from
the idea that players ‘fish’ for matching dominoes. You can either print out
our dominoes or make your own more authentic version with popsicle sticks
(instructions included!)
Matching Game cards can be used to play Memory
(Concentration), Go Fish and many other card games, as well as played with
