King William II ruled England from 1087 to 1100. He was the third son of
William The
Conqueror. He is thought to have got his nickname, William Rufus, because he
had a red face!

William Rufus colouring page
William of Malmesbury, who was a historian writing in the 12th Century,
described William Rufus as "well set; his complexion florid, his hair yellow; of
open countenance; different coloured eyes, varying with certain glittering
specks; of astonishing strength, though not very tall, and his belly rather
projecting." Does this description agree with his portrayal in the picture
below?

There is an interesting mystery about William Rufus' death in 1100, and
