Using the 5 "w" words is a clever method of encouraging reluctant writers to expand on what they are writing - and a useful tool for all students when they are feeling stuck. On the first page we give an example, starting off with "my black cat". Then we have a second page for children to choose another animal and have a go at the process again.
Here's an example:
- Who: My black cat
- Is doing what: My black cat is drinking milk
- When: My black cat is drinking milk at breakfast
- Where: My black cat is drinking milk at breakfast in the kitchen
- Why: My black cat is drinking milk at breakfast in the kitchen because he is hungry.
We haven't provided an answer sheet for this one.
