I've been working on this new idea for quite some time now and our household is absolutely hooked! So it is with great pleasure that I introduce our .... Doodle Pattern Tiles!
Some of you will already be familiar with Zentangles®, a very popular craze mainly enjoyed by adults right now. We decided that it shouldn't be adults having all the fun! But starting with a blank tile, zentangle style, can be a bit daunting for kids. And traditional "tangles" are definitely too intricate for younger children to enjoy. The idea of a zentangle is that you start by drawing a simple square, divide it up into irregular and random sections by drawing "strings", and then fill each section with a different doodle, design or pattern.
So here is our solution. Bigger tiles - 12cm square - with pre-drawn outlines for the children to use to get them started. The youngest children can either colour in the outline and the background, or do a very simple design in each. Older children can come up with more complex designs, and start to divide the outlines up into extra sections when they are ready.
