Dwight D Eisenhower
Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969) was the 34th President of the United States, serving from 1953 to 1961.
Eisenhower was a Republican. He had been a general in charge of the Allied armies in Europe. He won election to fight against Communism and corruption. He was the first President under new rules limiting Presidents to only two terms, so could not seek re-election in 1961.
