Glittery Play Dough

Here's a fun twist on playdough which makes it perfect for some Christmas "cooking" and modelling fun. If you've never made home-made playdough before please give it a go ... there is something wonderful about it! It stores well in Ziploc bags in the fridge (press out all the air when you seal them up), and if you leave it out it will harden eventually - but if you want to keep your creations you should paint them with an acrylic varnish to protect them.

We made our glittery playdough in red and green for Christmas!

And it makes a great "gift mix" too - we've even got printable tags so that you can package some up for your friends and family, or any children coming to visit over the holidays.

You will need:

1 cup plain (all-purpose) flour
½ cup salt
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup water with food colouring added
Glitter

Instructions:

Put all the ingredients into a large saucepan, and stir over a medium heat until the dough forms into a ball. Allow to cool, and then knead until smooth.

Store in an airtight container (a Ziploc bag with the air pressed out is good).

To make glittery playdough as a gift:

First colour the salt with a little food colouring and leave to dry (this is quicker if you spread it out on a baking sheet and stir occasionally). Make sure it dries out completely.

Mix the dry ingredients and put into a Ziploc bag with our label explaining how to make up the playdough.
