The owl sillouetted against an orange harvest moon is a very effective use of a stencil, and a fun craft for the kids to try. Younger children will need help cutting out the fiddly owl template, or you can do it for them in advance.
You will need:
- Black card
- Orange paint
- White paint
- Owl template
- Sponge
- Scrap paper
Instructions:
Make a stencil for the moon by cuting a circle out of scrap paper. Discard the circle and use the outside piece - the part surround the circle - to place on to the black card. In our photo below it is the orange paper.
Print our owl template and cut out an owl in the right size for your picture. Place it in the centre of the moon.
Stencils in place and ready for sponging
Holding the stencils in place, sponge on the orange paint. Sponge on a little white paint to add shade.
Let the paint dry and peel away the stencils.
