Inukshuk Activity

Here's an Inukshuk craft idea for kids, in which we replicate these stone landmarks or cairns (in the shape of a person) with smaller stones. These stone "sculptures" were built by people of the Arctic region of North America. It is believed they served as signposts and communicated messages in an area where the landscape offers few notable features. Do a Google image search for "inukshuk" for inspiration.

You will need:

Stones (flattish ones are best)
Super strong glue (optional)

Instructions:

Lay out your stones to form the shape of a man. If you like you can glue the pieces together.

Older children may like to try to build upwards to make a standing person. It is fun to see which stones fit together best, and build different combinations.
