James PolkJames Polk (1795-1849) was the 11th President of the United States, serving from 1845 to 1849. Polk was a surprise winner of the Presidential election. Though not one of the most famous Presidents he was very effective. He formally accepted Texas into the United States and gained even more land by winning the Mexican-American War.
