You might find a "king cake" in many different countries, associated with the Epiphany at the end of the Christmas celebrations. The Bolo Rei in Portugal is a good example. In other countries the king cake can be associated with Carnival or Mardi Gras, and the king cake in this poster is definitely in the Louisiana Mardi Gras tradition: a ring of cinammon dough decorated with icing in Mardi Gras colours, and with a small baby charm inserted into the cake so that whoever finds it will have good luck for the rest of the year. Some people say that whoever finds the baby has to provide the cake next year!
