Meerkats
Meerkats are funny-looking creatures, aren't they? The way they stand up on their hind legs and look with their curious faces has made them very popular with children, and we hope they enjoy this collection of meerkat printables and colouring pages.
About the Meerkat
Meerkats live in Africa - particularly in Botswana, Namibia, Angola and South Africa. They are a type of mongoose and are also known, less commonly, as suricates. Meerkats like to eat insects but will also feed on small animals, lizards, eggs, truffles and birds. They live in groups of 20 to 50 in networks of underground burrows (they can burrow through sand in seconds!). When foraging for food they leave one or more meerkat "on guard" while feeding, taking 1-hour turns at sentry duty and whistling or barking if they sense danger! They are immune to the bites of scorpions but may be killed by snakes and are prey to eagles and jackals.
Fun fact: A group of meerkats is called a "mob" or a "gang"
