My Bear

This is a game that shows children that they are unique but also allows them to see things that they have in common. It works best in smallish groups (about 10) of 4-8 year olds.

Sit the kids around a table with colouring pens, pencils or crayons and a printout of My Bear (below) each. Print out our list of questions (below) or make up your own.

Ask the children to listen to your questions and colour in their bears in answer to the questions. For example you might say “"Do you have any sisters or brothers? If you have a sister colour the bear'’s tummy red; if you have a brother colour it blue; if you have both colour the bear’'s tummy purple”. It is best to keep questions down to two or three answers, particularly with younger children.

When they are finished ask the children to look at one another’'s bears. Are any the same? Can they spot similarities and differences between them?
