Salt dough won't last long to play with but it can be sculted into lovely models which can be dried out and kept.
You will need:
3 cups of plain flour
1 ½ cups of fine salt
1 cup of cold water
2 tbsp of vegetable oil
Food colouring (optional)
Varnish (optional)
To make the salt dough:
Mix together the flour, salt, water and oil until you get a smooth dough (you may need to add a bit more flour or water).
If you are making a batch in one colour add a couple of drops of food colouring to the water
To make several different colours make the dough plain, separate into balls and then knead a drop of food colouring into each one. Gloves are a good idea!
Alternatively leave the dough uncoloured and paint when dry.
To harden bake in the oven on a low heat for at about 2 hours but the thicker your model the longer it will need.
NB:The high levels of salt in this dough can be very dangerous if ingested.
