Steve Redgrave

Sir Steven Redgrave (1962 - present) is a retired British rower who won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000 (three of them with his long-time rowing partner Sir Matthew Pinsent). He has carried the British flag at the opening of the Olympic Games on two occasions.

Redgrave is one of only four Olympians to have won a gold medal at five consecutive Olympic Games.

Fun fact: Immediately after the race which won him his fourth gold medal in 1996, when someone asked Sir Steve if he would be going to Sydney her replied “Anyone sees me go anywhere near a boat, you’ve got my permission to shoot me.” Obviously he didn't mean it!

"Remember these six minutes for the rest of your lives. Listen to the crowd and take it all in. This is the stuff of dreams."
