For the women's suffrage movement, the First World War provided an opportunity to prove their worth - as members of the various organisations were encouraged to stop their campaigns and do everything they could to help the war effort at home while the men fought abroad. This worksheet asks children to research and think about whether women would have been granted the vote if they had not proved themselves capable in this way.
During World War I, women took on many hard labour jobs - like shovelling coal - that had previously only been undertaken by men. Perhaps the kids can do some research on the sorts of roles that women took up as the men went to the Front, and write about them on this story paper page.
