Having worked on decomposing numbers to understand number bonds with our Break It Up Printable, we hope that children will quickly see that the reverse of a number bond is an addition sum. Put a small number of counters on each "part" rectangle, counting as you do so and telling a story. "We have two red counters here and two blue counters here. Now, if we move them all into the Whole rectangle, how many do we get?"
